Man Who Flipped Over Red Line Gets 30 Hours of Community Service

Dylan Polin’s flip over this gap at the Park Street station landed him 30 hours of community service. Dylan Polin via Instagram.

The video of free-runner and parkour expert Dylan Polin, who performed a leaping flip over the MBTA’s Red Line gap, crossed a legal red line.

Polin appeared in court on Wednesday on a trespassing charge, and he agreed to do community service to avoid paying a fine, he told Boston.com.

“We agreed to 30 hours of community service where I could be doing something a little bit more valuable than just paying a fine,’’ he said.

Last month, Polin successfully jumped between Red Line platforms at Park Street station and posted the video to his Instagram. “Been dreaming of this for years,’’ he wrote in the comments.

The daredevil leap made the rounds of local and national news circuits, but that prominence gave Polin some unwanted attention from authorities.

At the time, MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo called the stunt an “incredibly foolish and extraordinarily stupid act.’’ MBTA Transit Police filed a criminal complaint for a trespassing charge, which lead to Wednesday’s hearing.

“I’m proud of the actual skill, the flip itself,’’ Polin said, when asked if he regretted the stunt. “Definitely I should have kept it under wraps a little bit better.’’

Polin said he has reached out to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America about running some parkour lessons to fulfill those community service hours.

“The MBTA will be satisfied if no one else pulls a dangerous stunt like this again,’’ Pesaturo said Wednesday.
