Police Shoot Alleged Gunman in Chelsea
The Suffolk District Attorney’s office said it continues to investigate an early Sunday morning officer-involved shooting near Chelsea’s Bellingham Square.
A Chelsea police officer shot a man who allegedly opened fire on an occupied vehicle outside the Chelsea Walk Pub on Broadway, according to the statement. No one was struck by the gunman’s shots, authorities said.
Nearby patrolmen responded to the sounds of gunfire, and the alleged gunman, later identified by authorities as Igor Peulic of Chelsea, ran to Chestnut Street where offiers told him to drop his weapon.
“Preliminary evidence’’ indicates that an officer shot Peulic in the chest, according to the district attorney’s office. Peulic was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and is expected to survive.
Peulic will remain in the hospital until his arraignment in Chelsea District Court.
