MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo told Boston.com that a brake pad caught against a wheel, producing a “smoke-like odor.’’ The station remained open as Boston firefighters investigated and then cleared the scene.
The Downtown Crossing station was briefly evacuated on Friday afternoon after a electrical problem on an Orange line train generated smoke, and a disabled Red Line train caused delays and produced smoke on Thursday.
