Two Years Later, Police Still Searching for Shawn Clark’s Killer
Officials have once again asked for the public’s help identifying two suspects who allegedly shot and killed a former Marine in broad daylight two years ago.
Shawn Clark, 39, was gunned down at Patriot Skateboards, the Malden skate shop he owned, on January 29, 2013. No arrests have been made since police released surveillance video of the alleged attackers.
Police said shots were fired at the Main Street store just before 1 p.m., and a witness found Clark on the ground outside the store after seeing two men running from the scene.
The re-released surveillance video shows two people walking into the shop wearing hooded sweatshirts that cover most of their faces. Massachusetts State Police and Malden Police are still investigating the incident, and they are urging anyone with information to contact them.
A man who knew Clark told reporters that the former Marine only sold American-made goods, repaired skateboards even if his teen customers couldn’t afford them, and “did everything he could for the community.’’
“I’m sure he was protecting his store,’’ the owner of the space that Clark rented told The Boston Globe.
“Members of the public who may have seen or heard something on that day or since then may have a useful lead,’’ Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Thursday. “Shawn Clark was a husband, a father, a veteran of this country. We never forget that, and we never give up on these cases.’’
Clark’s colleagues and neighbors have told reporters that the shop was frequented by a close group of skateboarders, and that they believe the attack was random.
“These kids just lived to skateboard,’’ a tenant who lived above the business said. “He gave them a home.’’
