Aaron Hernandez Jury Seated, Trial Will Start Thursday

With a potentially historic snow storm set to hit the northeast beginning Monday and forecasted through much of Tuesday, opening statements in the Aaron Hernandez murder trial in the death of Odin Lloyd has been postponed.

The Hartford Courant is reporting that the trial will begin on Thursday.

The final phase of jury selection was expected to wrap up today, even though that process moved at a slow pace. Defense lawyers on Friday filed a motion to continue individual questioning of prospective jurors.

But that process took a quick turn Monday morning, as a final jury was seated before noon. Of the selected jurors, 13 are women and five are men. Of the 18 jurors impaneled, six will serve as alternates.

According to reporter Brian Fraga of the Herald News of Fall River, jurors appear to be mostly in their30s, 40s, and 50s; two or three in their 20s.

Opening statements were expected to start on Tuesday, but with a forecast calling for conditions that could make travel in Massachusetts nearly impossible for the next couple of days, the decision was made to push the start of the trial out to Thursday.
