Person Killed in Derry, New Hampshire Officer-Involved Shooting

New Hampshire’s office of the attorney general office and state police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Derry, New Hampshire. The shooting occurred at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to a statement from the attorney general.

According to the statement, Derry police received a call from a woman shortly after 8 a.m. She said her husband had just driven away from their home distraught, suicidal, and armed with a shotgun. Police responded, and an officer found the husband’s truck at the intersection of Julian and Scobie Pond Roads. As the officer’s cruiser approached, gunfire came from the rear of the husband’s truck, and the officer returned fire, according to the statement.

The man sustained a single gunshot wound, and was transported to Parkland Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, said the statement from the office of the attorney general. The officer who fired the shots sustained no injuries.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office asked anyone who was in the area of Julian and Scobie Pond Roads at the time to contact Sergeant Brian Strong of the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit at (603) 223-4381 with any information.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of his family members. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
