Police Seek ‘Person of Interest’ in Back Bay Wallet Thefts
Have you seen this woman? Boston Police believe she’s a “person of interest’’ in a series of wallet thefts at Boston restaurants.
Female patrons of Stephanie’s on Newbury, Joe’s American Bar & Grill (also on Newbury Street), and a number of restaurants downtown reported having their wallets stolen out of their purses as they ate at those restaurants in November and December.
According to a blog post on the BPD website, surveillance footage shows the person of interest using the victims’ stolen credit cards while shopping at department stores in Cambridge, Newton, and Chestnut Hill.
Police describe the person as a 30-40 year old white woman, 5’6’’-5’7’’ with a “heavy build’’ and long brown hair.
Police stressed that she’s not wanted as a suspect at this time.
Anyone with information about the woman can contact district D-4 detectives at (617) 343-5619. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can dial 1(800)-494-TIPS.
Police also warned Bostonians to be aware of their surroundings, keep their belongings close, and call police if they witness any suspicious behavior.
