Deval Patrick Joins MIT to Innovate Their Innovation Initiative
Former Governor Deval Patrick is pivoting to the private sector and joining the MIT Innovation Initiative as a visiting fellow, according to an MIT press release that uses the word “innovation’’ 18 times.
Patrick, whose eight-year tenure as governor ended last week, joins the school as a visiting innovation fellow with the Innovation Initiative. His job there will be to connect academia, industry, and government, and “help develop innovation ‘ecosystems’ and ‘hubs,’’’ the release says.
“Innovation is the fuel of our economy,’’ Patrick said.
Confused a bit as to what exactly the MIT Innovation Initiative is? Let’s let them explain it:
“The MIT Innovation Initiative is an Institute-wide, multi-year agenda to transform the Institute’s innovation ecosystem — internally, around the globe and with its partners — for accelerated impact well into the 21st century.’’
Ok.
Associate dean for innovation Fiona Murray lauded Patrick and called him “an international innovation diplomat for Massachusetts.’’
In his position, Patrick will make appearances around campus and hold seminars with students and faculty, the release notes, and will host regular office hours.
