Sudbury Fire Department Saves Dog That Fell Through Ice
Firefighters in Sudbury rescued a dog named Satchel from frigid waters this morning after he ventured out too far onto ice and fell through.
Satchel’s owner called 911 a little after 9 a.m. Wednesday after the golden retriever became trapped in the water during a walk on conservation land near Hudson and Old Lancaster Roads.
Firefighters responded in minutes and put on their ice rescue suits. Firefighters Michael Kilgallen and Shane Medeiros used an ice sled to get closer to the pooch, who ran to his owner after they lifted him out. A statement from the Sudbury Fire Department noted that the dog was “very cooperative,’’ and was unharmed.
“Firefighters are life savers, but they never know what conditions they will be working under or what kind of resident they might be called upon to save,’’ Sudbury Fire Chief William Miles said in the statement.
