Mayor Walsh Gets New Press Secretary, Communications Chief
Mayor Marty Walsh will be getting a new press secretary, as Kate Norton on Monday announced her decision to leave for the vice president of communications position at Boston firm CK Strategies.
Her departure will take effect this Wednesday.
Walsh congratulated Norton on her latest opportunity in a statement, saying Norton possessed “deep knowledge and finely-tuned instincts, impressive relationships across Boston, and an incredibly strong work ethic.’’
She will be replaced by 27-year-old Bonnie McGilpin, a former speechwriter and deputy press secretary for Governor Deval Patrick. McGilpin joined Mayor Walsh’s staff last month as the deputy press secretary.
Mayor Walsh also announced new communications chief Laura Oggeri, saying she had “exceptional communications and public relations experience, especially from her time as director of communications for the Senate President’s office.’’ The 26-year-old was formerly communications director for state senator Therese Murray.
Entering the second year of his first term, Walsh’s cabinet has seen its fair share of personnel changes. After four months on the job, his original communications chief Lisa Mansdorf Pollack resigned to return to her previous position as director of public relations at the Department of Neighborhood Development. Last March, Emilee Ellison also left Walsh’s press office to become his Deputy Chief of Staff before leaving City Hall altogether in May.
