Last Day for 4% Off Your Bill at Market Basket
Saturday marks the last day of Market Basket’s year-long discount of four percent off your grocery bill.
The promotion was first announced in a press release by the grocery store chain’s management on January 13.
“The additional 4-percent off promotion is a reward for our loyal customers and an investment towards a long-term growth strategy to attract new customers, increase sales and continue to strengthen and build Market Basket’s brand identity,’’ read the release.
Little did management know at the time just how much loyalty customers would display. A nearly six-week-long strike this summer caused customers and employees to boycott the store in a show of support for Arthur T. Demoulas, current CEO of Market Basket. The saga concluded on August 27, 2014 when Artie T. bought out the 50.5 percent share of the company owned by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.
Despite the financial strain that the strike put on the chain, Market Basket maintained the promotion through December 27, the end-date announced nearly a year ago.
Now, with the end of the discount, prices may feel higher than ever. Still, many customers agree that Market Basket offers the best value around, even without 4 percent off.
