Human Body Parts Found on Plum Island Beach

The Newbury section of Plum Island, Mass. The Boston Globe

A Newbury man was going for a walk with his dog on Plum Island Beach Saturday when he stumbled upon the unexpected — a human leg.

Carrie Kimball Monahan, spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney’s office, told the Boston Globe the leg was the first body part of several others to wash ashore this weekend.

The remains were confirmed as human Sunday.

Cadaver dogs and local and state police are still investigating the area.

The body will be examined by the Medical Examiner’s office, after which the sex of the person will likely become available.

Monahan said investigators will comb through missing person cases to try to identify the individual.
