Sudbury native Chris Evans, also known as Captain America in the enourmously successful Marvel Comic films, was in Newburyport Thursday night to host a charity dinner party at his cousin’s restaurant.

To his credit, Evans certainly knows his audience.

“This is for kids only. Adults must have kids with them,’’ according to the restaurant’s web site.

Evans announced the event via Twitter on Monday night, apologizing to his followers for the late notice and encouraging them to visit Fifty Water Restaurant & Bar for the holiday dinner to benefit the Pettengill House. Half of the $50 admission price will go to the Salisbury organization that helps families in need. Tickets, which sold out quickly, were apparently in such high demand that organizers feared scalpers.
