Longtime Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association President (BPPA) Thomas Nee is out, according to The Boston Globe. Known for epic battles over contract issues with late mayor Thomas M. Menino, Nee is among several members of the union’s leadership team to be replaced.

According to a tweet from the BPPA, the new president is Patrick M. Rose, formerly secretary of the union.

The Globe said Rose joined the department in 1994 and is currently assigned to Area C-11 in Dorchester. Officials said the union has more than 1400 members.

Nee famously challenged Menino when Boston hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2004. In 2013 an arbitrator awarded patrol officers a 25.4 raise over six years, a contract approved by the City Council despite Menino’s objections.
