ACLU Wants to Know Why a Man Was Pepper Sprayed During a Protest

The American Civil Liberties Union is in contact with a Cambridge man who claims he was pepper sprayed by a Massachusetts State Police trooper during last week’s protests in Boston. The organization is investigating whether the incident constitutes a First Amendment violation, according to a ACLU press release.

The civil rights nonprofit said it is in touch with Kin Moy, who posted a video online of what appears to show a state trooper pepper spraying him on Dec. 4 during protests about the Michael Brown and Eric Garner decisions.

Moy said he was trying to record a man being arrested on a highway ramp when his video captured a police trooper warning him to move away, or else he would be sprayed, according to the Associated Press. The video appeared to show the state trooper spraying Moy three times.

“We will continue to work for the rights of protestors responding to recent instances of police brutality and racial bias in policing,’’ the ACLU said in its press release.

State Police said they have begun an internal investigation to determine if the trooper violated any of the department’s policies, according to the Associated Press.
