54-Year-Old Brockton Man Accused of Impregnating 12-Year-Old
Elbert Richardson, 54, of Brockton, has been charged with two counts of indecent assault on a child under 14 and aggravated rape of a child.
The 12-year-old victim learned that she is eight months pregnant just last week, while seeking medical attention, The Brockton Enterprise reports. She told Brockton police that Richardson, who she claims raped her in April, is the father.
From the Enterprise:
“(The witness) indicated to the officers that the defendant called her. He was upset, he was crying. He told her that he had done something that he was ashamed of,’’ [Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Shanan] Buckingham said. “He admitted to her that something did happen with the victim, that there was an incident where they had sex. … He denied that he thought the baby was his.’’
Richardson was initially arraigned Wednesday on a charge of aggravated rape of a child and was ordered held on $500 bail. After the arraignment, however, other witnesses came forward, leading to additional charges that he also raped the victim in August. Richarson pleaded not guilty to the new charges Friday at Brockton District Court but was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Dec. 10. His wife said the charges are not true.
