Boston Mayor Marty Walsh isn’t ready to equip Boston police officers with body cameras despite a proposal by President Obama to provide such cameras to officers around the country, according to a Boston Globe report.

After attending a White House a meeting of mayors, police chiefs, and civil rights activists, Walsh said police body cameras “aren’t going to help with the fundamental problems between community and police.’’

“I’m not going to be distracted by having a conversation about whether or not police have body cameras,’’ he said, adding that the focus of Monday’s meeting was policing in America, and the different approaches, and results, experienced in various communities.

The president is asking Congress for funding to buy 50,000 body cameras for police to record events like the fatal Ferguson, Mo. police shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager.
