Sinkhole, Flooding in Wrentham After Crash Breaks Water Main
Rush hour traffic in Wrentham took a turn for the worse when a car crashed into a fire hydrant on Route 140, breaking a water main and creating a gaping sinkhole on Monday evening.
Wrentham police closed Route 140 between Thurston Street and Madison Street after the accident created a 20-foot hole, police said. The crash broke a water main, flooding the area and weakening the road from underneath, leading to the collapse.
Police also said the crash may have caused a natural gas leak. They asked drivers to stay away from the scene.
