Police: Pregnant Rider Spat, T Driver Responded With Slap During Dispute
A pregnant woman and an MBTA driver were involved in a dispute last Wednesday morning that Transit Police said involved some spitting, slapping and trips to the hospital.
The incident happened when a woman who was 17 weeks pregnant boarded a Green Line trolley on Commonwealth Avenue. Transit Police told The Boston Globe the woman had trouble paying the fare and proceeded to storm past the driver and take a seat.
Lieutenant Richard Sullivan, Transit Police spokesman, told the Globe:
“There was some type of dispute regarding the fare. The train operator asked the woman to pay her fare, and the woman ignored that request,’’ Sullivan said. “When the train operator demanded that she pay her fare, the woman spat in her face. Some of this spittle allegedly landed in the mouth of the T employee.’’
Sullivan said that, in response, the operator “allegedly slapped the woman’’ in the face.
