Hernandez Lawyers Challenge Witness List that Contains Belichick, Kraft
Lawyers for Aaron Hernandez have asked prosecutors to whittle their witness pool––which currently includes Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft and Brandon Spikes––down to witnesses they actually plan on calling. The motion was filed on November 17, 2014.
The witness pool currently contains the names of more than 300 individuals and businesses. T-Mobile joins 70 state, university, and local law enforcement officials on the list.
Lawyers for the former Patriot tight end argue that the large number of potential witnesses, initially disclosed on October 31, functions to conceal the identity of the witnesses the prosecution actually plans to call, while busying the defense with preparations to cross-examine witnesses that are unlikely to take the stand.
In July, The Boston Globe reported that The Patriots provided state prosecutors with 34 text messages between Hernandez and Belichick. The Patriots said the text messages came from a five-month period from December 2012 to April 2013.
