Man Detained for Psychiatric Hold Had ‘Dozens’ of Guns, 3 Police Badges
Saugus police said they discovered dozens of illegally-owned guns and three police badges inside the home of a man while serving him a psychiatric hold order.
Eric Dalbo, 49, of Felton Street, was charged with 31 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm as a subsequent offense, and single counts of possession of a deceptive weapon device, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of large capacity feeding device/weapon and possession of sawed-off shotgun.
Those charges carry additional penalties because Dalbo is characterized as a repeat offender under state law. His criminal record includes convictions in 1996 for unlawful possession of a firearm and other drug offenses dating back to 1988.
Investigators said they also discovered three police badges — including a U.S. Capitol Police and Massachusetts State Police badge — with the guns. They continue to investigate why they were allegedly in Dalbo’s possession.
Dalbo was transported to an area hospital for the psychiatric hold and remains guarded by Saugus police officers.
