Boston Fire Department District Chief Accused of Stealing Tens of Thousands From Budget
A Boston Fire Department district chief was indicted on fraud and larceny charges Thursday after authorities accused him of stealing tens of thousands from taxpayers to pad his own pockets.
Edward Scigliano IV, 45, of Kingston, faces five charges each of procurement fraud and larceny over $250.
Prosecutors said Scigliano engaged in two schemes that allowed him to pocket funds appropriated for the department, including misleading one equipment vendor to issue him checks totaling more than $32,000.
The former fire academy drillmaster is also accused of directing another vendor to ignore a pending order and instead deliver more than $14,000 worth of items for his own home, including a 52-inch television, a gas grill, living room set and an elliptical machine.
Authorities said Scigliano never revised paperwork to reflect those exchanges and that the city paid in full for items that were never delivered to the department.
Scigliano will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on Nov. 25.
