2 Injured After Warning Shots Fired Outside of CT Submarine Base
Warning shots were fired Thursday night during a confrontation with a man allegedly trying to access the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut.
A spokesperson for the base told the New Haven Register that the suspect attempted to enter the premises via a gate on Crystal Lake Road and did not listen to guards’ instructions to stop. At that point, officers reportedly fired warning shots and the man complied.
Two navy civilian police officers were injured by the ricocheting bullets, the spokesperson told the paper. The suspect’s name or the status of the shot officers was not immediately available.
Local WFSB news cited unnamed sources who told the network the man was armed with a knife, though this has not been officially confirmed.
