Woman Struck, Killed by Red Line Train at Downtown Crossing

A southbound Red Line train struck and killed a woman at Downtown Crossing station Thursday night.

MBTA Police Lt. Steve Douglas told Boston.com that his department received the call around 10 p.m. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.

One woman who said she was on the train reported that the doors remained closed for about five minutes before passengers were evacuated by MBTA Police.

“People outside on the platform were gasping and crying,’’ Rachel Denham said.

Jackline Moeda said she waiting for her train listening to headphones when she noticed the victim standing with a companion and leaning over the platform’s cautionary yellow line — presumably, she thought, to check on the status of the incoming train.

“I’d never seen anything like that in my life,’’ Moeda told Boston.com. “Her friend turned around and I’ll never forget the look on her face…She just looked in shock, like all of us were.’’
