Police Investigate Kitten Thrown from Car Window on State Highway

Police are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty in New Durham, New Hampshire after a witness saw a kitten thrown out of a moving car on Route 11 this week.

The good samaritan told authorities the cat died in her lap as she rushed to drive it to a nearby veterinary clinic. She later buried the animal on her property.

The incident got attention after the woman later circulated images of the victim on social media in an attempt to identify the cat or its owners (note: some may find the images disturbing).

Police told residents they were taking the case seriously.

“There are really no words for some of the awful things but some people do to other humans and animals,’’ a Facebook comment from the department’s K-9 unit read. “We see this type of thing every day, but you never get used to it. It is truly heartbreaking.’’

Authorities said the witness was three cars behind the vehicle, described as a “small blue car’’ with temporary plates.

If convicted, the perpetrators could face animal cruelty and reckless conduct charges — both Class A misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
