The train, which was not carrying any passengers, was outside of the station around 10:30 a.m. when it caught fire, according to a spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department. The fire was extinguished once fire officials arrived. The spokesperson told Boston.com that the fire was caused by an “equipment failure.’’

The fire sent smoke wafting into the Kendall/MIT station, according to Universal Hub, which also reported the train was moved for further inspection. The train is now disabled, according to the MBTA, but the delays are still expected to linger for a while.
We will update with additional information as it becomes available.
