Fire Capt. Arrested After Alleged Scuffle with Trick-or-Treaters
A Revere Fire Captain was placed on administrative leave this weekend after an altercation with some trick-or-treating teenagers allegedly turned violent Friday night.
WCVB reports that Carl Holmberg, 44, was out with his wife Serena and their 6-year-old son around 7:30 p.m. near the city’s Dale Street.
Serena told the network that a group of 10 to 20 teenagers began harassing her son so severely she was forced to call the police.
“About eight or 10 kids came and started throwing things at him, and then they left and came back with more kids, and then they stood there and taunted us and told him they were going to [mess] him up,’’ Serena Holmberg told the network.
The group then turned on her husband, who fell on the ground in the attack, she said.
In the altercation, at least two of the kids — one 11 years old — were allegedly injured by Carl swinging a golf club at them. Serena told WHDH that the family often carries golf clubs in their neighborhood for protection from dangerous dogs.
“He’s a firefighter; that’s what he does. He helps people,’’ Serna told WCVB. “He was protecting his 6-year-old and his wife.’’
Holmberg was charged with three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault and battery on a child. He is to be arraigned Monday.
