Huskies in Their Skivvies: Social Media Documents Northeastern University’s 9th Annual Underwear Run

Bystanders on Huntington Avenue Friday night bore witness to Northeastern University students baring (almost) all for a timeless Husky tradition.

The Annual Underwear Run—in which Northeastern students strip down and run from NU’s campus down Huntington, through the Prudential Center, around the Christian Science Plaza’s reflecting pool, and back—has taken place every fall for the past nine years (on Parent & Family Weekend, no less). Northeastern’s independent student newspaper, The Huntington News, said 2,000 students participated last year. Accorting to the run’s Facebook event, it exists in part “to remind Boston that it’s a college city.’’

As if we needed reminding.

Both students and spectators took to social media to document the event, the participants of which we imagine must have been very, very cold.

Some proud mamas and papas in town for Parent & Family Weekend even cheered on their kids.

And of course, some weren’t happy with the night’s activities.

Northeastern isn’t the only local school that does an underwear run, but hey, as this HerCampus article pointed out last year, do they really have any other “traditions’’ to speak of besides the Beanpot?
