2 Boys Killed in 4-Alarm Lawrence Electrical Fire
Two boys died early this morning in a four-alarm fire at 30 Kingston St. in Lawrence after being trapped by a “wall of flame’’ that engulfed the back of the apartment. Both state and local fire officials have confirmed that the fire was an accident and caused by old electrical wiring, according to State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan.
Firefighters arrived at the scene around 3:30 a.m. and attempted to enter the children’s bedroom on the third floor. Two firefighters were injured and taken to the hospital — one for facial burns and the other for a broken leg.
Massachusetts has seen eight fatal fires in the past year as a result of electrical issues, resulting in 15 deaths, according to Coan.
Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera said that the boys were from an “immigrant family new to the city.’’ Officials declined to release the names of the boys.
