Did Fremont, N.H. Just Have Its First Homicide Ever?
The town of Fremont went 250 years without a single reported murder — until today.
Police are investigating an “apparent homicide’’ in a home at 269 Main St. after a body was found there early Friday morning. Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim or a man they are seeking in connection with the investigation.
Fremont town historian Matthew Thomas told Portsmouth Herald reporter Jason Schreiber that, to his knowledge, no other murders had ever occurred in the area since the town broke from Exeter, New Hampshire in 1764:

In a 2003 article, Thomas told SeacoastNH.com that Fremont and East Kingston were the only two towns in Rockingham County without a murder reported in their history. Thomas did not immediately return calls from Boston.com for further comment.
A peek at Fremont’s 2013 police call log confirms that the town is fairly sleepy: a grand total of zero robberies, two drunk drivers and four assaults were reported in the town of about 4,000 people last year.
