Suspect Held on $1M Bail in Boston Common Park Ranger Stabbings
A man is being held on $1 million bail after he allegedly stabbed two park rangers on Boston Common on Tuesday afternoon.
Sgt. Al Hurd, 46, suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack, according to WBZ. He is being treated at Mass General Hospital and is expected to survive. The second ranger, reported by WCVB to be 24-year-old James Lunnin, suffered less severe injuries and is being treated at Tufts Medical Center. Lunnin’s father told WCVB that his son became a park ranger seven months ago after serving in Afghanistan.
The man arrested for the attacks, Bodio Hutchinson, 34, of Boston, appeared in Boston Municipal Court on Wednesday morning. Hutchinson’s defense reportedly said he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.

Hutchinson had an outstanding warrant for assaulting a police officer and other charges, according to Boston Police Commissioner William Evans. Police were also able to retrieve a knife they believed was used in the attack.
“He’s not a newcomer, obviously, to the criminal justice system,’’ said Evans at a press conference outside of Mass General Hospital.
