School’s Out (Indefinitely!) for Vermont Town
Hundreds of Vermont schoolchildren’s dreams may have just came true in the form of a (seemingly) never-ending long weekend.
South Burlington High School.
South Burlington School District announced Monday that all five of the city’s public schools have been closed “until further notice.’’ After-school activities have also been cancelled.
The announcement comes four days after the district’s teachers said they planned to strike should a contract dispute not be settled by October 14.
“At issue are divergent views on salary and health insurance benefits,’’ a district statement sent home to parents said. “If a strike is called, please plan for a disruption to educational and co-curricular services, as school will not be held.’’
Local NBC affiliate WPTZ reports the teachers have been working without a contract since July, and opened a strike headquarters today. It remains unclear how long the strike is expected to last.
Congratulations, kids.
