Mechanical Failure Led to Fatal Maine Hayride Crash
A mechanical failure in the jeep towing a hayride at a theme park in Maine led to a crash that killed a teenage girl and injured nearly two dozen others, according to police.
Seventeen-year-old Cassidy Charette of Oakland, Maine, died at the Pumpkin Land theme park in Mechanic Falls after the hayride reportedly jack-knifed and flipped over.
Local news station WMTW reports that at least two helicopters were called in to Harvest Hill Farm, which runs the autumn-themed park each year.
One witness reported a heavy response from fire and medical personnel:

Investigators returned to the scene Sunday to reconstruct the accident and check if the hayride was mechanically sound, the AP reported.
