Students Not Informed of Reported Rapes at Bridgewater State University

Students at Bridgewater State University weren’t told about a pair of alleged rapes on campus because university officials said suspects were quickly caught and there was no danger.

According to an Associated Press report citing The Enterprise newspaper, the alleged assaults were reported on Sept. 3 and Sept. 20. One was a reported assault in a gymnasium, the other in a dormitory.

In explaining the university’s decision, Fred Clark, executive vice president and vice president of external affairs, told The Enterprise if there’s no ‘‘continuing threat, we don’t send out a notice if a crime occurred.’’

These allegations come following several other recently reported sexual assaults on other Massachusetts college campuses.

Days earlier, a student at Worcester State University told police she was sexually assaulted at knifepoint on the campus.

Also last month, one person was arrested following two separate reported sexual assaults on the grounds of Massasoit Community College

Two sexual assaults were also recently reported on the Curry College campus.
