Winchester Community Mourns Teen’s Death

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday evening at St. Mary’s Church in Winchester to mourn the death of Patrick Gill, who died in a single-car accident Saturday morning.

The 17-year-old was a captain on the football team at Winchester High School.

Karen Rockhold, an assistant librarian at the high school, told NECN: “It was just overwhelming, there were just so many people there, it was just a place for people to be together.’’

Police report Gill was driving east on Manomet Road around 7 a.m. when his car exited the roadway and crashed into a tree. The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Division will be assisting in the investigation, which is ongoing.

Community members have started a memorial marked with flowers and a baseball cap at the crash site.

Grief counseling was being offered to students Sunday at the high school, according to The Associated Press.

School Superintendent William McAlduff Jr. told the AP that Gill’s death is a “devastating loss to the entire community.’’
