Saugus Selectmen Move to Oust Town Manager Over Alleged Misuse of Funds
The Saugus Board of Selectman voted on Monday to suspend Town Manager Scott Crabtree over objections of malfeasance and misuse of funds, The Boston Globe reports.
The board cited nine charges, including the unauthorized use of town funds to investigate a selectman and receipt of an educational incentive payment to which he is not entitled.
Crabtree also acted with “gross disregard for the financial well-being’’ of Saugus by pursuing litigation that the town had no reasonable chance of winning and hiring outside lawyers to conduct legal matters that should have been done by the town counsel, who is a Saugus employee, selectmen said.
Crabtree has the option to request a public hearing before the final vote to oust him from office.
