Police told WBZ-TV that the crashed truck was carrying liquid tar, some of which leaked out due to the crash. The Department of Environmental Protection and State Police were on site investigating.

Traffic is “pretty messed up,’’ State Police Trooper Robert Sundberg told Boston.com, as officials worked their way to the scene. The accident closed off lanes of traffic on Route 128, State Police tweeted, and lanes will be closed for the next 24-48 hours.
