Organized by Churches United for a City-Wide Revival, Saturday’s prayer march led by ministers and parishioners from Roxbury and Dorchester drew attention to problems affecting their communities, The Boston Globe reports.

Intentionally scheduled for last Thursday between the first day of public schools and the primary elections on Tuesday, nearly 100 congregants from Twelfth Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church and Metropolitan Baptist Church marched, sang and spoke passionately about poor schools, violence, unequal economic opportunities and other issues impacting the two neighborhoods.

“The real reason we have murder in our community is because we don’t have jobs,’’ said Rev. JoeLee Baker-Bey, of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury. The Reverend also urged marchers to pressure politicans to follow through on campaign promises.
