World’s Saddest Lobster Found Off The Coast of Maine
Meghan LaPlante made a one-in-2-million find on Old Orchard Beach this past weekend, according to The Boston Globe.
The 14-year-old, who was working with her parents at Miss Meghan’s Lobster Catch for the summer, found a blue lobster that is apparently pretty out of the ordinary:
“According to the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine in Orono, blue lobsters like the one LaPlante found are extremely rare. The color comes from a genetic defect that leads to excessive production of a specific protein.’’

“I knew that it was definitely rare, but I actually have never seen any other un-ordinary lobster,’’ LaPlante told The Globe.
She also told The Globe she plans on donating her blue lobster to the Maine State Aquarium.
