‘Spare Change Guy’ Arrested, Charged with Failing to Register as Sex Offender
John Bubier, 60, of Boston — better known to many Bostonians as “Spare Change Guy’’ — was arrested by MBTA Transit Police and charged with violating the state’s Sex Offender Registry law.
According to Transit Police, officers at Andrew Square Station noticed Bubier had snuck through a fare gate after another passenger had paid for entry. They later discovered he had not registered his location with the state as required.
Bubier is classified as a Level 3 sex offender, a status given to offenders the state believe have a high risk for re-offending. In 2011, he was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14, according to the Sex Offender Registry Board’s page on Bubier.
Adam Gaffin at UniversalHub reported Bubier was in Boston Municipal Court on Monday for probation violation.
Folks outside of Boston may remember Bubier from a Fox 25 interview with morning show co-host Doug “VB’’ Goudie, when the Fox host’s initial tongue-in-cheek questioning slowly morphed into outright mockery of his guest.
