Second West Nile-Infected Mosquito Pool Found Near Boston
A Boston-area mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile Virus, health officials said on Thursday. This is the second positive test in the area this year.
The virus was discovered after tests were conducted on a mosquito pool in Roslindale. On Tuesday, West Nile-infected mosquitos were found in a Jamaica Plain sample.
The news is fairly typical for late summer months, as West Nile has been detected in the Boston area every year since 2000. The Boston Public Health Commission notes that no humans have been diagnosed with a mosquito-borne illness in Boston this year. Last year saw at least six diagnosed cases.
West Nile has also been detected in mosquito pools near Atlanta, Georgia and in Indiana.
