Peabody man seriously hurt in crash on Route 1 this morning
A Peabody man was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on the northbound side of Route 1 in Peabody this morning, according to State Police.
The victim, one of the drivers, crashed into a utility pole near Route 114 about 6 a.m., knocking down live wires and blocking the roadway, police said.
Peabody firefighters helped access and remove the 37-year-old driver, who was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, State Police said in a statement.
No one else was injured, according to Trooper Reid Bagley.
Authorities believe excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Police closed the roadway while they investigated the scene, reopening one lane about 8:30 a.m.
No further information was immediately available.
