Fire Retardant System Discharges at Logan Airport, 5 Hospitalized
Five people were hospitalized on Thursday after a fire retardant system at Hertz car rental facility at Logan Airport discharged accidentally, officials told The Boston Globe.
Three people were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital and two were taken to Tufts Medical Center by Boston Emergency Medical Services first responders, EMS spokeswoman McKenzie Ridings told The Globe. Firefighters responded to the scene at 8:37 a.m.
WBZ-TV reports that no fire actually occurred, but that several vehicles were “blanketed in a chemical similar to baking soda.’’
Massport and State Police told WBZ they are investigating why the fire prevention canisters went off above gas stalls.
Hertz, the largest rental car company operating out of Logan, has been operating for 10 months.
Massport could not be immediately reached for comment.
