Stoneham Police Discover Marijuana Grow Operation after Apartment Fire
Stoneham Police Chief James McIntyre announced that a repeat drug offender turned himself in and has been charged with allegedly running a sophisticated marijuana growing operation. The operation was discovered in June, when the Stoneham apartment building it was located in caught fire.
According to a press release from the Stoneham Police Department, after the Stoneham Fire Department responded to a building fire in the second floor of an apartment on June 11, the firefighters realized that the contents of the apartment were “unlike any they had encountered before.’’
According to the press release:
Investigators found a complex and sophisticated marijuana grow operation, which included heat lamps and an irrigation system. More than 400 marijuana plants, in various stages of growth, were removed as evidence.
Stoneham Police detectives and Drug Enforcement Administration agents reportedly found ledgers detailing drug transactions, a vacuum sealer machine, plastic bags for packaging marijuana, and several jars of marijuana buds in the apartment.
Jason D’Anna, 35, of Barrington, Rhode Island, was charged with two misdemeanors: Possession of a Class D (Controlled) Substance with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of a Class D Substance.
If convicted, D’Anna will face up to 2.5 years in prison.
