3-Alarm Fire Levels Home Under Construction in Beverly
A Beverly house under construction burned to the ground Sunday night as firefighters struggled to contain the 3-alarm blaze, according to several reports. The fire started at approximately 9:30 p.m. and residents in occupied homes nearby had to be evacuated.
Beverly Fire Department Deputy Bill Petrosino said the flames spread to two other homes that were under construction and damaged four occupied homes in the neighborhood before crews were able to get the blaze under control at approximately 11 p.m.
WCVB’s Jim Lokay reported that “water issues and windy conditions’’ made the flames difficult to contain. The water-related issues were due to trouble with nearby hydrants, according to the Salem News.
No injuries were reported, but the fire remains under investigation. According to WBZ-TV, officials believe the fire is suspicious. Lokay reported that Beverly’s fire chief said a home nearby was the site of an arson case a few years ago, but a suspect was never arrested.
