2-Alarm Fire Quickly Extinguished at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital
Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, according to Melrose Mayor Rob Dolan. The fire was in a hospital ventilation shaft, according to Melrose firefighter Eric Christopher.

Melrose-Wakefield hospital released a statement following the fire:
While running a test of a new generator, heat transferred from the exhaust stack igniting a small area on the roof. The fire department is on site and has the situation under control. Patients have been removed from the immediate area and there is no threat to patient care.
Melrose-Wakefield Hospital is a six-story 234-bed facility and specializes in childbirth, along with other services. The facility also has an emergency department.
