Accused Amy Lord Killer Edwin Alemany to Use Insanity Defense
Edwin Alemany, charged with killing Amy Lord in 2013, will rely on an insanity defense during his trial. Defense attorney Jeffrey Denner announced the defense plan as part of a filing submitted to Suffolk Superior Court.

In a court filing at Suffolk County Superior Court, Alemany’s attorney, Jeffrey Denner, wrote that Alemany plans to rely on a defense of “lack of criminal responsibility’’ because of “mental disease or defect at the time of the alleged offense conduct.’’
Denner wrote that he plans to bring expert witnesses to testify about Alemany’s mental state and that he will also rely on statements Alemany made about his mental condition at the time of the alleged crime.
Alemany is accused of trying to rape Lord before killing her during a brutal attack on July 23, 2013. He’s also accused of attacking three other women.
His attorney, Jeffery Denner, hinted at the defense during Alemany’s August arraignment, telling a judge his client has a history of mental illness. But WCVB reports that Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley last year said the attacks show Alemany’s “unmistakable clarity of mind.’’
