Police: Alleged Underage Drunk Driver Crashed into State Police Cruiser
A 20-year-old woman faces a number of criminal charges and citations after Rhode Island State Police say she drunkenly crashed her car into a police cruiser. Two 16-year-old passengers will appear before a juvenile court in connection to the Sunday morning crash.
According to state police, two troopers were attending to a disabled car on I-95 in Providence early Sunday morning. The cruisers were blocking the first travel lane on the highway.
According to police:
The female motorist traveled around the first cruiser that was blocking the lane of travel before striking the second cruiser which was unoccupied which also had its emergency lights activated. The cruiser was then propelled forward and struck the disabled motor vehicle. The trooper and the occupants of the disabled motor vehicle, who were outside of the vehicle, were able to move out of the way to avoid being struck.
The woman, later identified as Nicole Dilello, 20, of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Police said they found an open bottle of alcohol in her car.
Rhode Island State Police arrested Dilello and charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol (second offense), refusal to submit to a chemical test, operating on a suspended license, and transportation of an alcoholic beverage by an underage person.
“Dilello was also issued a motor vehicle summons for Chemical Test Refusal, No Seatbelt-Operator, Operating Motor Vehicle Without Proof of Insurance, Turn Signal Required, Laned Roadway Violations, Failure To Maintain Proper Control of a Motor Vehicle and Conditions Requiring Reduced Speed–Move Over Law,’’ wrote state police in the statement.
The two 16-year-old passengers face charges of possession of alcoholic beverages by an underage person in a Rhode Island juvenile court.
