Fire at Cambridge Elderly Home Sends Officers, Residents to Hospital
Four police officers and several residents at an East Cambridge complex for the elderly and disabled were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out Sunday.
The Boston Globe reports that authorities said a small fire broke out on a fifth-floor balcony of the building.
According to the Globe, the Cambridge Fire Department said that “three of the officers have been treated and released from area hospitals,’’ with one still in treatment, and “the conditions of the residents who were hospitalized cannot be immediately confirmed.’’
Firefighters responded to the Millers River Apartments building at 15 Lambert St. around 7:45 a.m. and knocked the blaze down within 45 minutes, Cambridge Assistant Fire Chief Gerard Mahoney said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
