Martha’s Vineyard Man Killed in California
A Martha’s Vineyard man is dead and his friend is in critical condition after both men were robbed while hiking in Northern California. Francis “Pat’’ Gregory, 69, of West Tisbury, was shot and killed while hiking with his friend in Tehama County, California on Friday afternoon, according to the Cape Cod Times.

Another hiker found the two men about three hours later, according to the Times. Gregory’s companion, who was not identified, is in critical condition.
Police described the shooter as six feet tall with a thin build, wearing dark denim pants with a dark t-shirt, according to the Red Bluff Daily News.
Gregory, a retired math teacher and owner of a computer and arts supply store, was well-known in West Tisbury, having served as Town Moderator since 1991, according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times. Gregory and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Martha’s Vineyard in 1972. They had two children, Shannon and Tim, according to the MV Times.
